In this piece, I have successfully executed a sense of euphoria in a painting. You are able to see the glint of wonder in the eyes, which is nicely complemented by the dream-like state of the rest of the piece. The painterly background along with the colors draws strongly on the Modernist movement while the face is more similar to the technical work of the renaissance.
Process: I started with a bright greenish-yellow wash to give the whole painting an otherworldly glow. I then set down the undertones for the skin and built on that foundation until I got to the right complexion. I did the highlighting and shading to dramatize the light in the piece, and then added the details of the face. Finally, I put in a painterly background with complementary colors to make it pop.
