Design Sprint:
Time: 1 hour
Client: UNHCR
Location: Great Pyramids of Giza; projection during an international event.
Mission: The Syrian war has affected 80% of the country’s population, increasing the suffering of civilians and forcing them from their homes. Egypt has been accepting refugees into the country from the start. As of September 2015, there were 128,019 Syrian refugees, including 55,816 children, registered with UNHCR in Egypt. Syrian refugees in Egypt do not live in camps but live among Egyptian communities. In addition to Syrian refugees, Egypt also hosts 56,868 other refugees from Sub-Saharan Africa and Iraq.
Objective: This campaign sets out to encourage other countries to be as accepting of refugees as Egypt is. Using the great pyramids of Giza as a canvas, an animated procession of young refugees march across the three monuments, weighed down by what few belongings they can carry. The triangular build of the pyramids helps mimic the shape of tents that refugees of other countries are forced to live in.
