Based on the Salem witch trials, the book is a piece dealing with the wrongful accusations and their tragic consequences. To portray this, I challenged myself to create a typography cover that was simple yet powerful. The cover presents an extremely striking image to grab the attention of readers. It depicts an illustration of just a normal woman hanged in the same fashion that the unfortunate people of Salem were dealt with when they were accused of witchcraft. To create a rustic feeling, I chose handwritten typefaces that are reminiscent of the colonial era transcriptions of court proceedings the book is based on. The back also has a hand-drawn effect and a border inspired by historic books. For the paragraphs, I softened the rag to give it an interesting flow. I set the whole design in black on white to create a drastic contrast between it and other books with full-colored covers.
